Course Overview

The Furniture Making course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to design and create beautiful, functional furniture pieces. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on practice, participants will learn about design principles, material selection, joinery techniques, and finishing methods.

10 weeks (3 sessions per week, 3 hours per session)

  • Identifying different types of wood and their properties.

  • Mastering traditional and modern joinery methods.
  • Techniques such as dovetail, mortise and tenon, and dowel joints.
  • Using both hand tools and power tools for joinery.

Furniture Construction:

  • Building different types of furniture, including tables, chairs, cabinets, and more.
  • Techniques for ensuring structural integrity and precision.
  • Working with various furniture components and fittings.

Finishing Methods:

  • Preparing surfaces for finishing.
  • Applying stains, paints, and protective coatings.
  • Techniques for achieving professional-quality finishes.

Project Work:

  • Designing and constructing a piece of furniture as a final project.
  • Applying all learned techniques to create a finished product.
  • Presenting and receiving feedback on completed projects.

Course Materials:

  • Students are encouraged to bring their own basic tools if they have them
